Two sister missionaries in my mission were raped

CA girl Jam. 2013

This took place back in the 1990s. I arrived in the mission field with 5 other sisters. One of them, who I'll call Sister Smith, was assigned a trainer who was just amazingly beautiful. I found out she paid for her mission by modeling professionally. The two were assigned to a small, coastal town.

Leaving Mormonism how long does it take to start feeling better?

notanymore Dec. 2012

I absolutely LOVE not being a Mormon and I am just ecstatic to know the truth and be 100% free. But the aftermath has been just depressing. It's been almost a year since learning the truth and leaving and life has gradually improved since first telling friends and family. But then Christmas came and it feels like I'm at square one again. The holidays were horrible dealing with family.

My sister's mission president could have killed her.

jackjoseph Dec. 2012

My sister just came home from her mission to Latin America with a huge, scary lump on her thumb.

She had had it for two months. Her mission didn't let her see a doctor because they didn't want to deal with it. They figured she could just take care of it when she got home in a couple months.

I read a book called :the sins of Brother Curtis. A true story of a pedophile

karin Dec. 2012

A pedophile was able to repeatedly offend because Mormon leaders would not tell the local congregations that he had molested before.

Taking the first few steps.

So, I am a 37, married father of 4 living in Southern Utah. I am an RM. I was married in the temple. I was born and raised in the church. I have baptized my first child and my second child is turning 8 in three months and I am really starting to have doubts regarding my faith and belief in the church.

It's a great article that speaks out against the church policy and describes some of the danger in the view that masturbation is sinful.

Mormon Website - MormonsandGays

sherlock Dec. 2012

From the new Mormon website:

"We believe that with an eternal perspective, a person’s attraction to the same sex can be addressed and borne as a mortal test. It should not be viewed as a permanent condition".

But isn't this really, really insulting to a gay person? Telling them that an important intrinsic part of their nature is just temporary and a 'problem' to bear with for a period of time?

My ten years on RfM

Phantom Shadow Dec. 2012

From an old journal, unedited:

“Dec 26, 2002

“Three weeks ago I discovered exmormon.org. I have been fascinated by it and spending a lot of time reading the Recovery from Mormonism board

The scars of Mormonism are always very evident on this board.

jacob Dec. 2012

I think for some of us the wounds are still quite fresh and for others just a memory, but we all share a bond. We were hurt for a higher cause, and we learned that the higher cause was a fraud.

Visit from 1st counselor -Local Mormon Leader

sallycinnamon Dec. 2012

I've been inactive for the last 6 months. I'm in my early 20's, my immediate family has moved 3 hrs away for my dads new job. I stayed to continue school. Last night about 7 pm my doorbell rings at my apt. It's the bishops 1st counselor who I know from going to high school with his daughter. [RfM posters respond and Sally's reply are below]

Family Friction My Brother is a Mormon

nomonomo Dec. 2012

Been researching Mormonism because of some family friction, and found a lot of good info here. Thought I'd post and see if anyone can offer insight into what I'm dealing with. Thanks in advance for any insight. Here goes...

My brother married a Mormon girl years ago.

So apparently our mormon neighbor wasn't our friend, he was our home teacher

luvcake Dec. 2012

So when we first moved to our house in Utah we also decided that, that would be a good time to not go to church anymore. We did not make it as clear as we could have that we were never going to be going back.

So, I guess we thought we made friends with a neighbor across the street.

The "motherhood = happiness" myth

Darth Monson Dec. 2012

Like many women in the church, my wife was raised to believe that motherhood is the highest calling a person can have and that being a mother is the most wonderful, spiritual, and joy inducing experience that a person can have. For some, that may be the case, but NO ONE in the church EVER says, "not everyone is cut out to be a mother."

The Back Story on Backing Off: Was Bruce R. McConkie Upset with Members of His Own Family Supposedly Spreading WIld Tales about the Black-Priesthood Temple "Revelation"? . . .

steve benson Dec. 2012

Mormon Church apostle Bruce R. McConkie, in a public sermon to LDS seminary and institute teachers in August 1978 at Brigham Young University, spoke in dramatic fashion about what he insinuated actually did (and did not) occur in the Salt Lake temple some two months earlier when then-Mormon Church president Spencer W. Kimball told the assembled First Presidency and members of the Quorum of the Twelve that the LDS Church was abandoning its anti-Black doctrine--one which had historically denied the priesthood to men of African descent.

France and Polygamous Missionaries

Garçon

When I was a missionary in France in the early 80's, there was a lot of hushed talk about a missionary that had convinced a couple of other elders and some of the sisters to break away from the church and 'go back to their roots' by forming a polygamous group [in the late 1950's]. This obviously caused a big stir in the region. Some excommunications took place, and many of the members, even in the early 80's still didn't fully trust the American missionaries.

Raptor Jesus Aug. 2012 (Some adult language)

My knee gave out over the weekend, and so I thought it would be a nice time to hole up with a "good book." Therefore, with ice, ibuprofen, and my brace, I re-read the Miracle of Forgiveness and will share my thoughts forthwith.
