the Mormons across the street - seriously?

brucermalarky

There is an older couple that live across the street from us, very TBM. Our relationship with them (and other mormons in the neighborhood) basically ended 2 years ago when my wife and I left. That's what happens I guess when you leave a cult.

So today I had my 11 and 9 year Olds out raking the leaves in our front yard, I was paying them by the bag so they were raking a lot.

Anyway, when they finish they notices that the couples yard across the steet had not been raked and had a ton of leaves. They asked me (on their own) if they could go across the street to help the older couple. I thought that was a great idea and might even help us get some type of interaction going with them again.

Nope, mormonism has to ruin it. After they had been raking for about 10 minutes the lady came out and asked them to stop. I walked across the street and asked her why. She said that they did not do,that type of work on sunday and did not allow others to break the Sabbath on their behalf. She wasn't even nice about it.

WTF? My kids were trying to be nice, they ended up feeling stupid. I hate my neighbohood, if anyone is looking to move to the boise idaho area stay the hell out of meridian.

Didn't Christ say that it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath?

Jesus wouldn't stand a chance in today's lds church. He'd start acting outside church hierarchy and they'd be leading the charge to have him crucified.

I hate this type of behavior, especially if my kids wanted to serve their neighbors. It would seriously make me want to move as well.

Do TBMs even realize the sabbath is supposed to be Saturday?

BTW, Bruce, I think Jesus would be kicked out of most churches today. Not solely the LDS.

Yep. Bunch of Pharisees.

Re: the Mormons across the street - seriously?

Oops! Now I guess you just need to dump all the leaves you gathered back on the ground, across the street, in the neighbors yard.

If they are fanatics about the Sabbath that is okay I suppose, but they can at least be polite, thank the kids and maybe give them a treat for their effort. That would be the Christian thing to do, but I guess they prefer self righteous.

LOL Meridian. Are you in the Lochsa Falls area or by Settlers Park? that is the UT area of Boizee for sha.

Re: the Mormons across the street - seriously?

No, south meridian, over by tuscany. It's got to be 30-40% mormon.

Boise is usually said, less Mormon. I appreciate your story, because Lds influence does. exist. Service to your community should not freeze on Sundays. There is an entire world, that does good on any given Sunday. Your kids are amazing..encourage their yearn to do good for your
community.

Well, at least you are close to the freeway and away from the new temple. Hang in there. I can't believe how many Mo's are walking away here in the TV.

There are a good number leaving. Went to a Halloween party last night and 5 of the couples there had left in the last 2 years. It's a slow process though.

the sabbath is saturday

ok
Mormons=Pharisees indeed!!!

We just had this reading last Friday;
Luke 14:1-6

Healing of the Man with Dropsy on the Sabbath.*

1 On a sabbath he went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully.
2In front of him there was a man suffering from dropsy.*
3Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking, “Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?”
4But they kept silent; so he took the man and, after he had healed him, dismissed him.
5Then he said to them, “Who among you, if your son or ox* falls into a cistern, would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?”
6But they were unable to answer his question.

What I cannot stand about these stupid mormons are so desperate to want to be called "Christians"...but look how they are acting!!!

Do you think if their little joejoe falls into a big hole on a Sabbath day little joey will have to stay in that hole until the next day???

No, they don't pay enough attention to Jesus to know one way or the other what he'd be doing. They wouldn't even notice him just like they don't now.

Jesus ceased to be important after he appeared to Joseph Smith. I think he retired soon after.JS took his place.

Re: the Mormons across the street - seriously?

Don't move on their account.
They will get older and frailer, and the LDS church will not help them.
Before you know it they will be gone.

It never pays to move or quit a job because of someone else.
Usually something happens and the situation will change.

"They wouldn't even notice him just like they don't now."

That's very sad...But very true!!!

But, if you talk to my TBM elderly guy across the street, he'll tell you that there's no doubt they are "Christians, blah...they named their church after Jesus Christ"! He told me this back in April, and I'm still sick to my stomach every time I think about what he said!

Sounds like your sons have big hearts and a great work ethic. Way to go dad!

Re: the Mormons across the street - seriously?

I'm sorry this happened to you and your kids. What a lovely thought they had to help elderly neighbors. I suppose the neighbors don't do any shoveling or snow-blowing on Sundays either.

Re: the Mormons across the street - seriously?

They won't want other Mormons seeing work being done for them on a Sunday.

The very worst thing that could possibly happen to The Church would be ...
... for Jesus to suddenly start existing and then COME AGAIN.

It wouldn't be a pretty sight when Jesus started throwing the MONEYCHANGERS out of the Temple.

Envision TSM, Deiter, Boyd, Jeffrey, Dallin and all the rest bodily flying through broken temple windows as Jesus cleared all the vermin out of The House of the Lord.

Then he would hie across the street to the City Creek Mall, hold up his hands towards the Mall, then flick his fingers and explode the entire contraption to Kingdom Come.

Then Jesus would ... (use your imagination and have some fun)
